Careers360 Faculty Research Awards 2023: AIIMS, IIT, Jamia Hamdard scholars awarded for medicine

AIIMS Jodhpur additional professor and Jamia Hamdard assistant professor got the outstanding faculty awards while IIT Guwahati professor got commendable award.

NEW DELHI: The second edition of the Careers360 Faculty Awards 2023 for medicine have been awarded to the professors of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Jodhpur, Jamia Hamdard, and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati.

Tanuj Kanchan from AIIMS Jodhpur, Prashant Kesharwani from Jamia Hamdard, and Ajaikumar B Kunnumakkara from IIT Guwahati have received the awards. While Kanchan got the outstanding faculty award for public universities, Kesharwani received the outstanding faculty award for private universities. IIT Guwahati researcher won the commendable faculty award. Minister of state for communication Devusinh Jesingbhai Chauhan was the chief guest on the occasion.

Kanchan is vice dean (examinations) and additional professor of forensic medicine and toxicology at AIIMS Jodhpur. His research interests include forensic pathology, forensic anthropology, and forensic odontology. He earned his MD in Forensic Medicine from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, in 2006 and Diploma in Forensic Medicine from SMS Medical College, Jaipur in 2002. He has served as associate professor (forensic medicine) at AIIMS Jodhpur (2016-2019) and associate professor (forensic medicine) at Kasturba Medical College, (2010-2016).

On the other hand, Kesharwani is an assistant professor in Jamia Hamdard, Delhi. His research interests are nanomedicine, cancer, drug delivery, and solubility. He has published 190 research and review articles and 12 books. He holds a PhD degree in pharmaceutics. He won the Young Innovator Award (Gold Medal) at the 1st International Conference on Innovative Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences 2012 and Excellence Research Award (2014). He also won the Fellowship for Training of Young Scientist (2014-15) of the MP Council of Science and Technology as well as the ICMR-SRF fellowship for pursuing PhD.

Kunnumakkara is a professor in the department of biosciences and bioengineering, IIT Guwahati. His research interests include role of inflammatory pathways in cancer development, identification of novel biomarkers for cancer diagnosis and prognosis, and cancer drug discovery. He earned his PhD in Biochemistry from Amala Cancer Research Center, University of Calicut in 2006. He has served as an associate professor, department of biosciences and bioengineering, IIT Guwahati (2015-2019) and research fellow (NIH Scientist), National Cancer Institute (NCI/NIH), Bethesda, Maryland, USA.
