CBSE approaches Delhi police over question paper leak rumours: Report

NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has approached the Delhi Police over rumours spread on social media on an alleged question paper leak, an official told the Press Trust of India. The Class 10 and 12 board exams are in progress.

The board has written to the Delhi Police Special Cell requesting them to take stern action against the people involved in perpetrating the “fake news” and for “creating panic among students and general public”.

"It has come to the notice of the board that many anti-social elements are uploading fake messages like providing CBSE question papers and asking candidates to make payment thus misleading students and parents," a senior CBSE official told PTI.

“The police has been asked to lodge an FIR under various provisions of Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act 2000 and initiate action against the perpetrators," the official added.

According to the official, the board is trying to assess the veracity of the claims by speaking to people who have made the complaints.

The board has further tightened security for the ongoing examinations.

Later, a user apologized for spreading fake news about the question paper leak.

CBSE put up a notice asking the public "not to indulge in spreading such false news and rumours" and warned that "strict action" will be taken against such individuals.

Board examinations for Classes 10 and 12 began on February 15.
