CBSE asks schools to update list of examiners or pay fine

NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has asked affiliated schools to update the number of teachers available as examiners in the Online Affiliated School Information System (OASIS) by April 10 as the board felt a shortage of examiners for Class 12 practical examinations.

The board observed that schools have reassigned teachers to lower classes causing a “reduction in the availability of teachers for practical examination”. The board also noted that many schools have not uploaded the complete list of teachers to CBSE OASIS.

CBSE, in a circular dated April 3, said: ”All the principals are directed to update teachers’ data in the OASIS within schedule. CBSE will compare both the data before updation and after updation.”

CBSE said that non-compliance of instructions will invite actions such as non-declaration of board results for the school, “a personal penalty of Rs 50,000 on the principal” of the respective school, or a cancellation of the “practicals conducted by an examiner not appointed by CBSE” which “will be conducted by the CBSE” on a later date under its supervision.

CBSE has also asked schools to conduct practical exams without an external examiner appointed by the board.

CBSE Class 12 practical examination was scheduled from March 1 to June 11 and evaluations for Classes 10 and 12 will commence from May 7. The board remarked that “quality teachers in sufficient quantity are required to complete both activities”.
