NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has requested higher educational institutions to celebrate International Day of Yoga (IDY) with focus on social distancing as no mass gathering is possible during the present COVID-19 pandemic.

Addressed to the vice-chancellor of the universities and principals of colleges, the circular from Rajnish Jain, Secretary, UGC read, “Universities and colleges are requested to encourage students and faculty members to perform yoga at home and yoga with family for building immunity and relief from stress.”

Social media platforms

Use of social media platforms like Youtube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram has been suggested for facilitating online participation and uploading videos.

The circular also requested that the teachers should be motivated to use the Diksha platform as a dedicated yoga channel.

Further, students and teachers have been encouraged to join a 45-minute IDY Common Yoga Protocol developed by yoga experts on 21 June 2020 at 7 am. The details of the protocol are available at the ministry of Ayush’s social media platforms.

The higher educational institutions have also been asked to share participatory videos of IDY with the UGC’s activity monitoring portal.
