Chandigarh University grabs spot in top 250 universities in QS Rankings by Subject 2025

NEW DELHI: Chandigarh University has continued to make its mark on the global academic stage and entered the league among the world’s top 250 universities in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025.

The university has secured a spot in the elite top 250 universities in engineering and technology, and social sciences and management. It has also grabbed 231st position in engineering and technology, which is 101 places from its 332nd spot last year.

“In Social Sciences & Management, the university has also made impressive progress, climbing 69 spots from 318th in 2024 to 249th in 2025. With these advancements, Chandigarh University has firmly positioned itself among the world's top 250 universities in both disciplines,” the university said.

Notably, the Chandigarh University has also climbed 50 spots in the mechanical engineering rankings. It has improved from 351-400 range in 2024 to 301-350 range in 2025. Furthermore, the university has also moved up 80 positions in electrical and electronic engineering position from 501-240 last year to 401-450 in the current year.

Moving 50 spots in business and management rankings, the Chandigarh University has improved from 451-500 positions in 2024 to 401-450 in the current year, making a jump of 50 positions.

Interestingly, the university has also grabbed a spot in the chemistry category for the first time by positioning itself in the 551-600 range.

QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025: Evaluation criteria

The Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), one of the global ranking agencies, conducts the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025 evaluation annually. “This ranking provides insights into how universities perform in specific subject areas, guiding students, educators, and policymakers in making informed decisions,” the university said.

The QS rankings are done using a combination of various pointers, including academic reputation (30%), employer reputation (15%), research citations per paper (20%), H-Index (15%), and international research network (20%).

“By considering these factors, the QS rankings offer a well-rounded perspective on a university’s strengths in different disciplines, going beyond just overall institutional rankings,” it added.
