Chitkara University hosts two-day international conference on education

Representatives from EU and Indian universities deliberated on the socio-economic impact of technologies in study programmes and vocational training.

NEW DELHI: The Chitkara University organised a two-day international conference ‘Re-thinking education in the age of AI’ in collaboration with the European Union. The conference was attended by representatives from leading Indian and European universities and policymakers.

The conference was organised under the framework of the EDUREFORM capacity-building project and generously co-financed by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union. The representatives deliberated on the socio-economic impact of emerging technologies in study programmes and vocational training.

The institutions that participated in the conference included Unison International School, Chitkara International School, Chitkara University, Chitkara College of Pharmacy, Holy Angels School, Chandigarh Baptist School, Adharshila, The Mukat Trust International School, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Public School, Cambridge Innovative School, Angels Valley School, Sinhgad Institute of Management, SPPU, Bhusawal Arts Science College, The Millennium School and Panjab University.

Indian-European Alliance for Education launched

On the first day, the conference witnessed the official launch of the Indian-European Alliance for Education, creating a shared platform for an international cluster of experts to collaboratively develop initiatives that enhance the societal and developmental impact of higher education. Panel discussions were also held on the role of schools and international cooperation in re-thinking education.

On the second day of the conference, panel discussions were held on various topics such as teaching pedagogies, technology in education, applied education and innovation in education. Scholars and faculty from India and Europe also presented their research papers on contribution in education.

Book launched

The conference also witnessed the launch of a book authored by Miss India 1979 winner Swaroop Sampat Rawal. The launch was hosted as part of the EDUREFORM International Conference. Recognized as one of the top ten teachers for the Global Teacher Prize in 2019, she actively contributed to shaping the National Education Policy (NEP 2020).

During the launch of book ‘Play Practice Pursue’, Sampat responded to an array of thought-provoking questions with unwavering clarity and passion. She illuminated her extraordinary journey from the entertainment industry to education, citing a pivotal realisation that spurred this transition.

Chitkara University pro-chancellor Madhu Chitkara said, “The introduction of artificial intelligence and robotics in the manufacturing and service sectors is expected to metamorphose the skills required in the labour market. Education must play a substantial role in supporting Indian governmental and private entities through this technological transition.”
