Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships open for higher education in UK, know eligibility and selection process

New Delhi, September 19: The application process for Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships has commenced through the official website from August 28. Candidates seeking scholarships in one year masters courses in United Kingdom can fill the application form till October 30, 2020. Students must note that they are required to fill the application form twice; once through the Commonwealth scholarships portal and the other through Sakshat portal of Ministry of Human Resource and Development of India.
Students seeking nominations can choose from six different themes for which scholarships will be offered. No application fee is required to apply for the scholarship program. Also, the CSC does not offer Master’s Scholarship program for MBA aspirants.

Important Note: Candidates must apply on both the portals to be eligible for the scholarship. Failing to apply in any one of the portals will lead to the cancellation of candidature.

Who can apply?

Candidates who have passed their bachelors or are expected to complete their degree by October 2020 will be eligible to apply for the Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship. Apart from this, there are many other eligibility conditions specified by the authorities which are given below:

  • Student must be an Indian citizen.

  • The student must be a permanent citizen of India.

  • The student must be available to attend college in the UK from September/October 2020.

  • The applicant must have passed their bachelor degree or expected to complete their graduation by October 2020.

  • The student must declare that he/she is unable to afford the course in UK without the scholarship.

  • Students who have already been abroad for studies/training/ specialization either on scholarships or on their own, for a period exceeding six months are eligible to apply given that they have been in India for a minimum of two consecutive years after returning from abroad.

Commonwealth Master's Scholarship will be offered under the following themes:

  • Science and technology for development

  • Strengthening health systems and capacity

  • Promoting global prosperity

  • Strengthening global peace, security and governance

  • Strengthening resilience and response to crises

  • Access, inclusion and opportunity.

What is the selection and nomination procedure?

  • Candidates must upload the offer of admission from any of the participating universities, failing to do so will lead to the cancellation of the application.

  • The MHRD, India will send total 39 nominations to CSC, in case the number of applications are more than the number of nominations available, the authorities will release the merit list on the basis of the ranking of the University as per the 'QS Ranking 2020'.

  • Candidates who will be nominated will bee will be informed through e-mail and public notice on the MHRD's website

The Ministry of Human Resource and Development will make total 39 nominations to CSC and the name of the selected candidates will be tentatively declared by June 2020.
