COVID-19: JIPMER Puducherry issues guidelines for students joining July 2020 session

NEW DELHI: The Jawaharlal Institute for Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry has issued fresh safety guidelines for candidates joining the institute in the July 2020 session. The instructions on safety have been communicated through a notification released on the official website jipmer.edu.in. The guidelines by JIPMER thus issued are to safeguard candidates and staff at the institute from the rapid spread of Coronavirus. The notice also asserts the need for ‘strict compliance’ with the procedure. ‘This is important to ensure the safety of the candidates as well as of others’. For more details check below.

JIPMER Puducherry guidelines for localites

Those candidates who are natives of Puducherry and are residing there currently will have to first go through certificate verification, followed by medical examination and then, joining their respective departments with immediate effect. Dates for the same will be notified by the authorities in due course.

Joining guidelines by JIPMER Puducherry for non-localites

Since the current COVID-19 spread establishes the need for social distancing, the authorities will follow the below-mentioned guidelines while granting admission.

  • Batch wise admission - In order to ensure that there is no overcrowding at the institute, JIPMER Puducherry will be calling candidates in batches of 30 every 7-10 days in the duration of a month.

  • Mandatory quarantine - Under the effect of the policy of the Government of Puducherry all candidates will have to be quarantined for a minimum of 7 days. On the 8th day they will have to get themselves tested for COVID-19 and if found negative, will have to join their department and shift to the allotted hostel on the 9th day.

Measures to be taken while leaving hometown

A brief of the steps that candidates are required to undertake when leaving from their hometown is mentioned here:
1. Candidates have to send their as well as their parents’ personal details immediately after allotment

2. They will also have to send a declaration form stating their symptoms (if any) of COVID-19

3. Candidates will have to carry JIPMER PG allotment letter and valid photo ID

4. Medical graduates must inform about their date and time of arrival

Steps to be taken on arrival at JIPMER campus

The authorities have laid down various guidelines for those who are arriving at the campus, some of them are mentioned here. On reaching the JIPMER campus candidates will have to report to the room allotted to them in the quarantine facility. All the candidates will have to undergo temperature screening and their status on the ‘Arogya Setu’ app will also be verified. Original certificates of medical graduates will be verified and physical examination will be undertaken.

Essentials to be carried by candidates

In the points that follow, list of essential items which must be carried by candidates when reaching the institute are mentioned:

  • Personal protection - 3 ply face masks (minimum 100) and 2 face shields

  • Sanitization - 100 ml hand sanitizer (minimum 5), 2 bottles of liquid soap for personal use in washroom

  • Social distancing in mess - 2 food carriers, plates, spoons, tumblers, etc.

  • Miscellaneous - Packaged food items that can last 3-4 days, clean clothes for at least 10 days and essentials for day to day usage
