Dharmendra Pradhan on 3-day visit to Singapore for education, skill development

Union education minister will visit educational institutions of Singapore and interact with IIT, IIM alumni.

NEW DELHI: The Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will go on a three-day visit to Singapore beginning today, May 28 for collaboration on education and skill development.

The aim of this visit is to strengthen the existing ties between the two countries. Pradhan is expected to meet different Singaporean ministers such as deputy prime minister and finance minister Lawrence Wong, foreign minister Vivian Balakrishnan, Trade and Industry minister Gan Kim Yong, senior minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, and education minister Chan Chun Sing.

Along with this, Pradhan will visit Singapore Spectra Secondary School, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Institute of Technical Education and Educational Services (ITEES), Singapore University of Technology & Design (SUTD). He will interact with the controlling agency of SkillsFuture movement implementation called the Skills Future Singapore (SSG). Further, the union education minister is expected to meet Indian diaspora and Odia association members, and IIT and IIM alumni who are living in Singapore.

In past, India and Singapore have had partnerships in skill development field. As per the missions of Education Working Group under our G20 Presidency, the nations are expected to promote lifelong learning and future of work.

On April 25, 2023, during the 3rd Education Working Group Meeting in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha in partnership with the Singaporean Ministry of Education and Ministry of Trade and Industry, a joint workshop on “Future of Work: Skill Architecture and Governance Models of India and Singapore” was organised. The decisions and notes arising from the workshop are expected to contribute towards future skills-based partnership between India and Singapore.
