Dibrugarh University initiates planning to restart academic activities

NEW DELHI: Dibrugarh University has initiated the planning process to resume academic activities, the Vice-Chancellor informed the students on Friday. The university is taking measures so that the students do not lose a year due to the COVID-19 lockdown.
“We are [engaged] in constant discussions with the government, teaching fraternity of the university and principal of our affiliated colleges to chalk out an effective strategy to resume academic activities,” wrote Ranjit Tamuli, Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University in a message to the students.
A task force comprising teachers, officers of the university and principals of the affiliated colleges, has submitted a report suggesting steps for the reopening of colleges.
As per the state government’s direction, the task force has also given recommendations on conducting pending examinations.
The teachers of the university have also submitted a ‘comprehensive plan of action’ for conducting terminal semester to avoid ‘a loss of year’.
Student grievance cell
In order to help the students in need, the university has also constituted a ‘Special Students’ Academic Grievance Cell’. Students facing academic difficulties or mental health-related issued have been advised to connect with teachers through the cell.
In addition, the students can also approach the university’s Centre for Studies in Applied Psychology for help.
“The pandemic has thrown us into a dangerous and uncertain situation, and we may have to wait until the situation comes under control through natural process or scientific intervention. However, we can certainly overcome it with proper care, consultation and counselling,” said Tamuli.
All educational institutions across the country have been closed down for over three months to control the spread of coronavirus.
