Embrace competition, Narayana Murthy advises management students

NEW DELHI, APRIL 08: N R Narayana Murthy, Co-founder, Infosys called upon the students to embrace competition for shaping the future of the country, the world and one’s own personal growth. “You will play an important role in shaping the future of this country and this world. You start your career at a time when competition is intense, opportunities are huge, and challenges are daunting”, Murthy said addressing students at the 54th Convocation of Indian Institute of Management Calcutta.

Therefore, the most important advice I can give you is to embrace competition with enthusiasm and alacrity, and to ride the wave to your own and your company’s advantage,” he added.

The ceremony was also graced by Shrikrishna Kulkarni, Chairman – IIM Calcutta’s Board of Governors and Dr. Anju Seth, Director, IIM Calcutta.

This year, the 2-year MBA degree was awarded to 453 students, including 312 male and 141 female students, graduating from the flagship Post Graduate Programme. 66 students, including 60 male and 6 female student graduates from the 1-Year MBA degree for Executives. The award of diplomas was announced for 38 students, including 32 male and 6 female students, in Post Graduate Programme for Executives for Visionary Leadership in Manufacturing (PGPEX VLM) and 52 students, including 42 male and 10 female students, in Post Graduate Diploma in Business Analytics (PGDBA). The Institute also conferred 14 students, 7 each of male and female students, with their PhD degrees.

Students were honoured with medals and awards by the chief guest, Narayana Murthy.

  • The     Satish K Sehgal Doctoral Student Award for excellence in scholarship and organizational citizenship was awarded to Gaurav Gupta and the     Best Publication Award by IIM Calcutta Alumni Association Mumbai     Chapter was awarded to Milan Kumar and Vaishnavi T.

  • Under     2-year MBA Degree Programme, Anish Patil was awarded with Dr. B C     Roy Gold Medal for 1st     Rank holder, Chairman’s Prize, John Wynne Prize, Calcutta     Management Association Trophy, P C Chandra Silver Medal for 1st     Rank holder IIMC Alumni Association, Calcutta Chapter prize. His name will be instated in the Institute’s Honour Roll.

  • Under     1-yr MBA Degree Programme, Rajesh Ranjan was awarded with Gold     Medal, sponsored by the Calcutta Chapter of the IIMC Alumni     Association, Institute Book Prize, Book Prize sponsored by Taylor &     Francis Group, the Rising Star Award of Academic Merit for PGPEX     Students and a cash award of Rupees one lakh, sponsored by the     Shapoorji Pallonji Group. He will also find his name etched in the     Director’s merit list.

Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, is the first Indian business school crowned with triple international accreditations by AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), AMBA (Association of MBAs) and EQUIS (the three major international accreditation bodies for Business Schools).
