Former CJI Dipak Misra advises the students to have complete understanding of law

NEW DELHI, DECEMBER 3: The inaugural session of the G D Goenka CIArb (India) International Commercial Arbitration Competition 2018 witnessed an august gathering of renowned legal dignitaries who shared their thoughts on international commercial arbitration law, legal ethics and importance of arbitration law.

The ceremony began with lighting the lamps by the dignitaries. Prof.(Dr).S.Shantakumar, Pro Vice Chancellor, G.D. Goenka University delivered the welcome address and inaugurated the event with his address to the participating teams of the Arbitration Competition. Mr. Nipun Goenka, Managing Director, G D Goenka University felicitated all the dignitaries who had graced the occasion with their presence.

Prof. Dr. Suku Bhaskaran, President, G D Goenka University in his presidential address mentioned how moot court competitions are helpful for law students particularly to understand the practical aspect of this branch of law. He wished the teams great success and congratulated the Iran delegation of students for participation in this competition.
The Key-note speaker for the day, Dr. Lalit Bhasin, President CIArb (India), President, SILF emphasised on professional ethics in Arbitration Law and how it is litigant friendly. Dr. Bhasin called each participant a winner who have participated in the International Commercial Arbitration Competition from different universities both national and international.GD Goenka takes immense pleasure to have associated with CIArb (India) and with Dr. Lalit Bhasin, who have been our constant source of support.

Justice Lingala Narasimha Reddy, Chairman,Central Administrative Tribunal, Principal Bench, New Delhi, in his special address, told us about arbitration is the future of law and will not just be an alternative dispute resolution mechanism but the better dispute settlement mechanism.

The much awaited inaugural address was delivered by the Former Chief Justice of India, Justice Dipak Misra, who has given various landmark decisions in a very short span of time that will stand firm in history. With his immense experience, HMJ Dipak Misra discussed about legal ethics and how pragmatic dispute settlement mechanism is in present times. Justice Dipak Misra advised the students to have complete understanding of law and by plunging into arbitration they are expanding their horizon. He wished all the teams ‘equal’ luck.

The ceremony concluded with Prof. Dr. P. Lakshmi, Associate Dean, School of Law, GD Goenka University delivering the vote of thanks and she deeply emphasized on the fact that the future lawyers are of the potential to calibrate the pulse of Arbitration Law. She expressed her immense gratitude to every single person who is associated to the GD Goenka CIArb (India) International Commercial Arbitration Competition 2018.
