GAT-Biotechnology 2020: Application open till June 18, exam on June 30

NEW DELHI: Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB), Faridabad will conduct the Graduate Aptitude Test of Biotechnology (GAT-B) on June 30, 2020 to offer admission in various DBT supported PG programs in Biotechnology and allied areas in all the participating institutes. GAT-B is being conducted in place of Combined Entrance Examination for Biotechnology (CEEB) conducted earlier by Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi. Application form for GAT-B is available online on the official website gat.rcb.ac.in during June 1 to 18, 2020.

The examination will be a Computer Based Test (CBT) of 180 minutes duration and will be conducted in 58 exam cities located in different states of the country. A total of 1221 seats will be available within 62 courses for admission through GAT-B.

Students will be issued a GAT-B rank on the basis of their performance in the exam post which they would be able to apply for admission in their preferred institute and course among the participating institutes. All the participating institutes will advertise separate notifications for admission after the conduct of GAT-B. Students admitted under the DBT supported program in any of the participating institutes will be paid a monthly stipend as per the rules laid down by the government. GAT-B rank will be valid for a period of one year only.

GATB Exam Structure
The Graduate Aptitude Test-Biotechnology (GAT-B), being conducted by the Regional Centre for Biotechnology on behalf of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, is the admission eligibility test for DBT-supported PG programmes in Biotechnology in all the participating institutions. This examination is to rank the eligibility of the candidate among all applicants. The candidates will be given a GAT-B rank based on which they may apply to the various DBT-supported PG programmes in participating institutions.

GAT-B Exam Pattern
The GATB-B examination will be conducted in a single shift for a duration of 3 hours. The question paper will have two parts, Part A with 60 compulsory multiple choice questions of the class 12 level in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. Each correct answer will be of one mark each and there will be a negative marking with ½ (half) mark for every incorrect answer. Part B will have multiple choice questions of bachelor’s level requiring thinking and analysis. There will be questions from basic Biology, Life Sciences, Biotechnology and allied areas as per syllabus attached. There will be 100 questions out of which the candidates will have to attempt 60 questions. Each correct answer will have a weightage of 3 marks. There will be negative marking and for each wrong answer one mark will be deducted.
