NEW DELHI: Republic Day 2022 was celebrated today at Rajpath in the presence of President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other notable personalities of the country making a total of 5,000 people participating in the celebrations this year. Republic Day 2022 parade witnessed tableaux of 12 states and union territories along with other tableaux.

Republic Day 2022 parade: Watch state-wise tableau

The spiritual city of Varanasi with the recently-inaugurated Kashi Vishwanath Dham is the centrepiece of Uttar Pradesh's tableau in the 73rd Republic Day Parade on Rajpath, PTI said.

“Uttar Pradesh’s unique tableau manifests the developments and glories of the state in the last 75 years. It also shows the development of the Kashi Vishwanath corridor in Varanasi,” PIB India tweeted.

“Punjab has made a significant contribution to India's freedom struggle and the same was highlighted at the State's tableau at Rajpath during the #RepublicDay parade. The tableau pays homage to gallant freedom fighters Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru,” PIB India tweeted.

“The tableau from Jammu and Kashmir depicts the changing face of the UT in the backdrop of a developmental scenario. It also showcases the Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan on its front portion,” PIB India tweeted.

Uttarakhand showcased connectivity projects and religious sites in its tableau at the Republic Day parade here on Wednesday. The front portion of the tableau showed Gurudwara Hemkund Sahib, one of the holiest Sikh shrines, PTI reported.

“Uttarakhand's magnificent tableau is an audio-visual treat for the spectators, themed 'Pragati Ki Or Badhta Uttrakhand'. It displays the state's advancement and endeavors in the field of transport, communications, and religious tourism,” tweeted PIB India.

“Haryana's tableau at the #RepublicDay parade showcases the State's prowess in Sports. The state has brought laurels to India by winning the maximum number of medals in several national and international sporting events,” PIB India said in a tweet.

A century-old, long-forgotten uprising in Bhil dominated Sabarkantha that was quelled by the British after the horrific massacre of 1,200 tribals was showcased by Gujarat in the Republic Day parade. The tableau of the Gujarat government depicted scenes of the congregation of tribals in Pal-Dadhvaav villages to protest against high taxation (lagaan) and forced labour imposed by the British and the subsequent indiscriminate firing by the British Army, PTI reported.

Dancers from the Kunbi community, the original inhabitants of Goa, and glimpses from the liberation struggle were the highlight of the tableau of the coastal state that rolled down Rajpath during the Republic Day parade on Wednesday. The front portion of the tableau showed the majestic Fort Aguada overlooking the Arabian Sea, and is considered as the defining symbol of Goan heritage, PTI reported.

Meghalaya's tableau showcased bamboo and cane handicrafts as well as Lakadong turmeric to honour women-led cooperative societies and self-help groups which revived the popularity and demand of these products with their relentless efforts.

While the front part of the tableau depicting a woman weaving a bamboo basket and several bamboo and cane products of Meghalaya, the rear portion of the tableau depicted the traditional farming and processing of Lakadong turmeric, PTI report said.

Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel tweeted: “Today the whole of Chhattisgarh is feeling proud after seeing the tableau of #राजपथ_पर_गोधन . Godhan Nyay Yojana is our pride!”

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai tweeted: “Our Karnataka's Tableau at the #RepublicDayParade wonderfully showcases all our 16 GI tagged traditional handicrafts with an installation of 'Mother of Traditional Handicrafts in India' Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay overseeing them and offering Bagina of many of our folk crafts.”

The Indian giant squirrel found in the Sahyadri mountains, a new spider species named after Mumbai policeman Tukaram Ombale who captured terrorist Ajmal Kasab during the 26/11 attack, featured in the tableau of Maharashtra that was part of the Republic Day parade. The Maharashtra tableau depicted five bio-diversity symbols of the state that include the state animal 'Shekru' or the Indian giant squirrel, the state bird 'Hariyal', state butterfly 'Blue Mormon', state flower 'Jarul' and the state tree 'Mango', PTI reported.

The tableau of Arunachal Pradesh depicted 'Anglo-Abor (Adi) Wars'-- resistance of the state's indigenous tribal people, particularly the Adis of Siang region who had bravely fought against the imperial policy of colonial expansion of the British rule in India. In the front portion of the tableau a bust of an Abor (Adi) warrior and two warriors defending the intruders was depicted, according to PTI report.

"The 73rd #RepublicDay parade concluded with the splendid and the grandest flypast ever by the Indian Air Force," tweeted PIB India.
