Himachal Pradesh: Priority to introduce new-age courses in technical institutions, says CM

NEW DELHI: Himachal Pradesh chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said the government was according priority to introduce new-age courses in the technical institutions in the state.

“In the present scenario, emerging digital and modern technology are offering a large number of job opportunities to the youth,” he added.

He said that the BTech programme in computer science and engineering (artificial intelligence and data science), which was recently introduced at Government Hydro Engineering College, Bandla, in Bilaspur, has attracted large number of candidates. The programme has 76 seats for the academic session 2023-24.

He added that specialised courses in computer engineering, internet of things and mechatronics have been started at the government polytechnic institutions, Rohru and Chamba. All the seats have been filled in these programmes.

“To cater to the demand of the industries, other new-age courses, including mechanic electric vehicle, technical mechatronics, and internet of things have also been introduced from the current academic session in 17 government industrial training institutes. The admission is getting good response,” the CM said.

He added that by introducing new value added courses, the present government intends to improve the quality of technical education and make it job oriented. “The industrial establishments in the state will get trained manpower by introduction of new technical courses. The youth will also get better job opportunities in other states. The endeavour of the state government is to create conducive environment for technological advancement and open up abundant employment opportunities for the youth,” Sukhu said.
