HRD and Health Ministers will inaugurate Drug Discovery Hackathon 2020

NEW DELHI: The Union minister for health and family welfare, Dr. Harshvardhan, will inaugurate a Drug Discovery Hackathon 2020 today at 11 am along with human resource development minister, Ramesh Pokharial ‘Nishank’ through video conferencing. Minister of state for HRD, Sanjay Dhotre, will also be present.

“The Drug Discovery Hackathon 2020 is a unique approach to identify Covid-19 drug," Dr. Harshvardhan said through their twitter handle.

This is a joint initiative of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for drug discovery for Covid-19.

The ideas submitted through this hackathon will be worked on in CSIR laboratories and other private organisations.

It is also supported by the office of the Principal Scientific Advisor of the Government of India who is directly dealing with Covid-19 drug development.

The AICTE Chairman Prof. Anil Sahasrabudhe had earlier said: “It is truly an interdisciplinary effort. We invite people from all streams to participate in it.” He also added the academicians and professionals from diverse fields such as computer science and molecular biology could take part in it to assist in finding solutions.
