HTET validity extended by Haryana Govt to seven years, 90,000 candidates to benefit

NEW DELHI: The Haryana Government has extended the validity of Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test (HTET) and State Teacher Eligibility Test (STET) to 7 years. Earlier, the validity of these exams was 5 years. The decision comes as a relief for around 90000 HTET qualified candidates whose validity was about to get over soon. The Additional Chief Secretary (School Education) Mahavir Singh has issued an order to this effect.

The Haryana Government had already extended the HTET validity from 5 years to 7 years in 2017. Earlier this year, the government had clarified its position in this matter and maintained that the HTET validity will be 7 years for qualified candidates.

Questions surrounding HTET

The BSEH conducts HTET every year but there has been no vacancy for JBT teachers since the year 2012. As per JBT HTET Pass Association, there has been no vacancy for JBT teachers in Haryana from the past 7 years, whereas the government has made 2800 crores from the HTET fee alone. At present, there are around 90,000 HTET qualified candidates but there has been no vacancy. The association is planning to approach the Hon’ble High Court demanding a stay on conducting further HTET exams.

About HTET Exam

The Board of Secondary Education Haryana conducts the Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test (HTET) as an eligibility test for aspirants who want to be teachers in government schools in the state. The exam acts as an eligibility test for recruitment in Primary Teacher (PT), Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT), and Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) posts in schools run by Haryana State Government.
