New Delhi, January 17, 2020: Indira Gandhi National Open University has extended the last date for registration for January 2020 session till January 31, 2020. Earlier, the last date for registration was January 20, however, now the authorities have decided to give another 11 days for IGNOU registration. Thus, candidates who have not registered yet for the January session can get their IGNOU registration done. Besides extending the registration deadline, the university has also reopened the re-registration window from January 17 for the candidates who have to get into the next semester or year. IGNOU had earlier closed the re-registration window on December 31, 2019, however, now after a gap of 17 days, it has again started the re-registration process.

It must also be noted that registered candidates can also check their admission cum registration status now, from January 17, 2020. To know their admission status, candidates have to visit the official website ignou.ac.in and click on the admission status link. Thereafter, candidates have to enter their 9-digit enrollment number and select the respective programme and click on the search button. This facility is provided by the university so that candidates can check whether their candidature is accepted or rejected.

IGNOU offers two admission cycles - January and July and follows the ‘Credit System’ for most of the programmes. Each credit is equivalent to 30 hours of enrolled student study which comprises all learning activities (i.e. reading and comprehending 10, IGNOU Common Prospectusthe print material, listening to audio, watching video, attending counselling sessions, teleconference and writing assignment responses). Thus, a 4-credit course involves 120 hours of study and a 6-credit course involves 180 hours of study. This helps the enrolled candidates to know the academic effort they have to put in, to successfully complete a course. A programme (Diploma/Degree) opted by a candidate is considered complete depending on the completion of the assignments, practical, projects and the Term-End Examination as per the requirement of each course in a programme.
