NEW DELHI: The Institute of Hospitality Skills (IIHS) – an initiative of the International Institute of Hotel Management (IIHM) – has opened a state-of-the-art facility in Delhi. The centre will offer skill-based courses in hotel operations.
The IIHS provides a one-year diploma course in luxury hospitality operations for students who have cleared Class 12. It also provides diploma courses in kitchen operations (nine plus three months) and bar and beverage operations (three plus three months). Other diploma courses, which have a duration of six plus three months, are also provided at the IIHS. For admission to these courses, the candidate should have cleared Class 10 or 12.
The institute also offers short-term programmes focusing on various aspects of hotel operations. These programmes cover areas such as service staff ethics, the art of cooking, baking, concierge services, front-office operations, housekeeping, food and beverage services, kitchen assistance, bell desk services and others. Furthermore, the courses also incorporate knowledge on essential topics like FSSAI regulations, safety training, and overall management skills, a statement from the institute read.
IIHS added that it aims to open 100 centres across the country within the next two years, with a mission to educate 1,00,000 young unemployed professionals and help them join the hospitality industry. Apart from the Delhi centre, the courses are also being offered at all IIHM campuses across India.
IIHS founder Suborno Bose said, “In our industry there is a great demand for skilled manpower, and Delhi, being a hub of business, provides a great platform for hospitality skills development. This is part of the Government of India's Skill India Mission. We are collaborating with Skill India and Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council (THSC) to train hundreds of skilled hospitality workers.”
The IIHS further added that its certifications are recognised by government organisations, including the THSC, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and Skill India.
