NEW DELHI: A group of Indian Institute of Management (IIM Ahmedabad) alumni, in a letter, has urged the director Bharat Bhasker to implement the union government reservation policy in the courses and promotion of faculty members of the institute.,

Twelve alumni of the institute have said the PhD admission advertisement issued by the IIM Ahmedabad for the 2024 has not included the provisions of the central government reservation policy on higher education for the aspirants from marginalised sections of the society i.e. SC, ST, OBC categories.

“We have been requesting and demanding implementation of the policy even before the enactment of the IIM Act 2017. Most of the IIMs and other institutes of higher education like IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology), NITs (National Institutes of Technology), IISc (Indian Institute of Science) and others have implemented the central government reservation policy for their doctoral programmes,” the letter read.

“Even IIM Raipur, where you have been director for a number of years, has proactively implemented this policy,” they added. As per the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Act 2006, IIMs have to provide 15%, 7.5% and 27% reservation in admission for candidates belonging to SC, ST and OBC categories, respectively. The faculty members belonging to these categories get reservation in promotion in the same proportion under The CEI (Reservation in Teacher Cadre) Act, 2019.

The alumni members have also forwarded their letter to the President who was recently appointed as the visitor of all the IIMs after amendment of IIM Act, 2017.
