IISER Berhampur advisory committee prepares roadmap for National Center of Excellence

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Berhampur’s high-level research and academic advisory committee (RAAC) under the chairmanship of K N Ganesh, the founder director of IISER Pune and IISER Tirupati visited the IISER Berhampur campus for two days from September 1 to September 2 to guide students on science, education and research. The committee has also prepared a roadmap for IISER Berhampur to become a national centre of excellence.

The committee comprised scientists and academicians from various branches of science. The committee will provide regular guidance for boosting research and academic activities in the institute.

According to the institute, Ashok Kumar Ganguli, a senior professor of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and founder director of the Institute of Nano Science and Technology, Mohali formed the high-level committee with the approval of the board of governors of the institute.

Key points discussed by the IISER Berhampur advisory committee

The committee interacted with faculty, students, and research scholars for two days and provided guidance on various scientific matters for boosting research in science education.

IISER Berhmapur stated that the brainstorming sessions were organised by the committee to identify new areas in scientific research. The high-level committee has also outlined a roadmap for research and academic activities for the institute in the coming years.

According to the institute, “ the guidance provided by the committee will help the institute develop core competency in various upcoming relevant areas of scientific research at the national, International level.”

The committee suggested that the academic curriculum should be in line with New Education Policy 2020 to train the students. As per IISER Berhampur, the guidance will help to emerge the institute as the center of excellence in science education and research.

“The Institute has been collaborating with several educational Institutions in Berhampur and also in Odisha. It is aiming to create an ecosystem of high-quality scientific research so that other local educational institutes can also benefit through mutually collaborating projects” a statement from IISER Berhampur read.

Ganguli visited various schools and colleges and encouraged students to take up science as a professional career according to the institute.
