NEW DELHI: The 1994 batch alumni of the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi have contributed Rs 1.33 crores to institute research excellence fellowship program at the institute.

The fellowship programme is set up to recognize and encourage engineering faculty members for doing research in a selected area, as approved by the selection committee.

The US based alumni Manu Srivastava and Srikanth Kommu signed an agreement with Professor Rajeev Srivastava, Dean (Resource and Alumni Affairs) of the IIT BHU. The fellowships will continue on a perpetuity basis except for the area of research.

The IIT(BHU) 1994 Research Excellence fellowship for engineering faculty will be awarded for recognising the faculty members, one each from the three departments of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Mechanical Engineering, and Metallurgical Engineering.

The areas of research and specializations identified for award of fellowship include

  • Renewable energy and sustainability science in Chemical Engineering
  • Manufacturing, Design, Thermal and Fluid Engineering in Mechanical Engineering
  • Computational Materials Engineering, Sustainable Materials, Corrosion Fatigue and Hot Corrosion, Fatigue and fracture, Ferrous Process Metallurgy in Metallurgical Engineering

The research excellence fellowships will be available to the serving regular engineering faculty members of the institute selected by the selection committee. The selection committee consists of five members: Two members from the IIT(BHU)-94 batch (Manu Srivastava and Shrikanth Kommu, 1994 Batch US based alumni) and three senior members from IIT-BHU, as nominated by the Director.

IIT BHU director P K Jain, Board of Governors, IIT (BHU) and Dean Srivastava expressed their gratitude to the alumni of 1994 batch for instituting a research excellence fellowship programme. Jain said, " The contributions made by the 1994 Batch Alumni will go a long way and make a strong impact on strengthening the academic and research ecosystem at the Institute”.
