IIT Delhi hosts US National Security Advisor; partnerships with US academia, industry poised to expand

NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology Delhi’s (IIT Delhi) I-Hub Foundation for Cobotics (IHFC) hosted Jake Sullivan, the National Security Advisor (NSA) of the US. Sullivan delivered a talk on 'The United States and India: Building a Shared Future' and explored future strategic alliances by strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.

Speaking at the event, Sullivan said: “Being here at IIT Delhi with young technologists, entrepreneurs and policy makers who will take this generational project forward, I have every reason to believe that within the next decade we will see American and Indian firms working together to build the next generation of semiconductor technologies, American and Indian astronauts’ conducting cutting edge research and space exploration together.”

He further said that within the next decade, “We will see American and Indian researchers contributing to a new explosion and life saving vaccines, American and Indian engineering students developing new innovations together right here at IIT Delhi, and American and Indian leaders propelling our partnership and our future torque with the American statesman and scientists.”

Highlighting the ongoing linkages between the American universities and IIT Delhi, the institute’s director Rangan Banerjee said: “Out of IIT-D’s 4000+ publications in the last year, more than 25% were with international collaborators with the highest chunk of 8% with the US.”

“IIT Delhi’s ongoing partnerships with US academia and industry are poised to expand, with discussions underway for further collaborative efforts. These initiatives aim to foster greater investment in India’s thriving startup ecosystem and advance joint research projects, strengthening the India-US relationship even further, the institute said.

Narayanan D Kurur, dean, academics, delivered the vote of thanks, and highlighted Eric Garcetti, a US Ambassador’s first and Sulliva’s last visit to India National Security Advisor of the USA. Guests from the US Embassy, representatives from the industry, faculty, and students of IIT Delhi also took part in the event.

In other news, IIT Delhi’s Department of Civil Engineering (CED) in collaboration with the Delhi Chapter of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) and the Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) programme today held a seminar titled ‘Indigenous Knowledge in India on Civil Engineering.’
