NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi is setting up an offshore campus in Abu Dhabi. The institute is also going to launch several initiatives such as state-of-art observatory in Sonepat, state-of-art central research facility on the campus and in Hauz Khas and Sonepat, healthcare hub and centre for paraplegics in Jhajjar, among others. The institute is also coming up with a new curriculum in the year 2023.

IIT Delhi will hold its convocation tomorrow, November 5, 2022. In a press conference, the institute said that it is setting up an institute in Abu Dhabi. Ex Dean academics will be the coordinator for IIT Abu Dhabi. In August, the Centre had requested IIT Delhi to explore the possibility of establishing a campus in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

New academic programmes launched by IIT Delhi in this period:

  • Master of Science, (Research) in Machine Intelligence and Data Science
  • MTech in Machine Intelligence and Data Science
  • MS (R) in Transportation Safety and Injury Prevention
  • MTech in Biomolecular and and Bioprocess Engineering

Academic programmes for which degrees given for the first time:

  • Joint PhD (IIT Delhi and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University)
  • Joint PG Diploma in Visionary Leadership for Manufacturing
  • MS (R) in Sensors, Instrumentation and Cyberphysical Systems Engineering
  • MSc in Cognitive Science
  • MSc in Economics

“The idea is to have groups of faculty members going from IIT Delhi and making a representation in the parliament and talk about research regarding 5g and observatory and research,” said IIT Delhi.

The institute said that last two years saw a significant drop in the enrolment of international students but it hopes that it will be much better in the coming academic year. The institute offers 500 fully funded PhD fellowship for international students.
