IIT Kanpur concludes seven days workshop on ‘Human-Centred Design for Engineers’

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur recently concluded a workshop on "Human-Centred Design for Engineers" under the Accelerate Vigyaan scheme funded by SERB. The week-long event, took place from March 15 to 21 to equip engineering professionals and students with the understanding and practical application of human-centred design principles.

As per the press release, the event featured a mix of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on prototyping sessions led by faculty members from IIT Kanpur. The faculty members conducted sessions on topics ranging from product design and MedTech to design thinking, communication design, interfaces, evaluation, Internet of Things (IoT) prototyping, and the role of humans in robotics.

The workshop underscores IIT Kanpur's commitment dedication to fostering a human-centric mindset and incorporating design thinking principles into both engineering education and practical application. The workshop attracted a diverse group of participants, including master's and PhD students from various engineering colleges across India.

Commenting on the workshop's significance, the director of IIT Kanpur, S Ganesh, said, "At IIT Kanpur, we recognize the importance of human-centred design in engineering, ensuring that our innovations not only meet technical specifications but also account for the lived experiences and contexts of the end-users. Speaking about the workshop, associate professor of IIT Kanpur, Vivek Kant, said, " We hope that the knowledge and experiences gained during this workshop will inspire participants to integrate human-centred design principles into their future endeavours."
