IIT Madras opens BS degree admissions 2026 at study.iitm.ac.in; applications open till May 31

Indian Institute of Technology(IIT) Madras has opened applications for the next cycle of its Bachelor of Science (BS) degree courses, with May 31 set as the last date for submission of applications. Candidates interested in BS degree courses can apply at IIT Madras official website, study.iitm.ac.in.

As per the IIT Madras press release, the courses are aimed at expanding access to IIT education through a flexible format that allows students from varied academic and professional backgrounds to enrol.

The institute’s press release said, the courses are open to anyone who has completed Class 12 and there is no upper age limit for applicants. IIT Madras is currently offering the below four BS course;

  • Data Science and Applications
  • Electronic Systems
  • Management and Data Science
  • Aeronautics and Space Technology

Students can pursue them either independently or alongside another undergraduate degree.

IIT Madras release said the courses are delivered primarily in online mode while examinations are conducted physically at centres across India. The release added that learners can complete the courses at their own pace, with options to exit at different stages with a certificate, diploma or full degree depending on the credits earned.

IIT Madras: Flexible JEE-free courses

According to IIT Madras, admission to these courses does not require candidates to clear the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). Instead, students are admitted through a qualifier route intended to widen participation beyond the conventional engineering entrance framework.

Speaking about the initiative, Prathap Haridoss, dean (Academic Courses), IIT Madras, said the courses were structured to provide “flexibility without compromising on quality” and help learners build stronger foundations in technology, analytics and interdisciplinary learning.

The institute further stated that the courses are increasingly attracting students already enrolled in courses such as BCom, BSc, BBA and engineering, as they seek to combine their core discipline with data oriented and analytical skills. IIT Madras also said fee support of up to 75% is available for eligible students from economically weaker backgrounds.

The curriculum has been developed with inputs from academic and industry experts and includes practical exposure in areas such as business analytics, electronic systems, aerospace technologies and data driven decision making, the IIT Madras press release added.
