IIT Madras to host Singapore India Hackathon 2019, PM Modi to award winners

New Delhi, September 27: Indian Institute of Technology, Madras will host the ‘Singapore India Hackathon 2019’ from September 28-30. Indian PM Shri Narendra Modi will be present at the final prize distribution ceremony which will be held on September 30. After the success of Smart India Hackathon initiative, last year Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Shri. Narendra Modi announced the Singapore - India Hackathon 2018 (a joint hackathon between India and Singapore) for the first time. The second edition of Singapore India Hackathon will be organised by IIT Madras in collaboration with MHRD India. The Hackathon is being organised under three themes - Good health and well-being, Quality Education and Affordable and clean energy.

The finale of Singapore India Hackathon 2019 will commence from September 28 at IIT Madras. The participants of the Hackathon will be provided all essential facilities 24*7 which include accommodation, meals, lab facilities, internet etc. A day prior to the event i.e. September 27, Singaporean & Indian Delegates & Students will be received at the Chennai Airport and transferred to IIT Madras. The event will see 20 teams with 6 members each fighting it out for the top spots. Each team in the Hackathon will be assigned one mentor which may be either from India or Singapore.

The winners of the Hackathon will be rewarded with cash prizes; 1st prize: $10,000, 2nd prize: $8,000, 3rd prize: $6,000, 4th prize: $4,000 and consolation prizes: $2, 000 X 6 teams. Students who are studying in their pre-final year were eligible to participate in the Singapore India Hackathon. Students had to compulsorily participate in the Grand Finale Software Edition to become a part of the big event. Students then had to go through various processes of rigorous screening which involved an online test and personal interview. Based on the performance of students, they are divided into 20 teams consisting of 3 Indian students and 3 participants from Singapore each. The authorities have released the list of shortlisted participants with their teams and mentors through the official website of MHRD Innovation Cell. Indian and Singaporean students will be given a chance to interact with each other before the main event starts.

Apart from PM Modi, Minister of Education, Singapore Shri Ong Ye Kung, Union HRD Minister Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ and MoS HRD, Shri Sanjay Dhotre will be present at the Singapore India Hackathon 2019. The three themes of the event are further divided into 5 problem statements which will be the main focus of the Hackathon.
