IIT Mandi, AIIMS Bilaspur sign agreement for academics and research

The institutes will work for various domains related to medical science and technology such as medical imaging, digital pathology, point-of-care testing devices, bioinformatics etc.
NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology, (IIT) Mandi has signed an agreement with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bilaspur for collaborating on academics and research activities.
The agreement was signed in a meeting between Professor Ajit Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Mandi; Vir Singh Negi, Director, AIIMS Bilaspur, and Venkata Krishnan, Dean (SRIC), IIT Mandi.

Under this agreement, “both the institutions plan to work on joint research projects, and involve in short-term joint academic programs in the future providing the researchers and students an opportunity to visit and work collaboratively with the other Institution,” said an official statement from IIT Mandi.
Speaking about the collaboration, Chaturvedi said: “the collaboration between IIT Mandi and AIIMS Mandi we are looking forward to jointly work and excel in the field of medical sciences for the betterment of society at large.”

Other major initiatives under this agreement include:
- Joint international conference, workshop and seminar of medical and public health
- Exchange of information on teaching and other literature relevant to educational and research programmes
- To link both sides of medical industry, device and equipment, based on mutual agreements, and as per existing laws
The joint research and academic collaboration activities under this agreement will look at various domains related to medical science and technology including medical imaging, digital pathology, point-of-care testing devices, bioinformatics, endocrinology, biomaterials, telemedicine, etc.

During the agreement signing event at IIT Mandi, the two institutions also talked about the future scope of translation of technology in collaboration with industry partners to ensure that the benefits of the research reach the society at large.
Recently, IIT Mandi researchers from School of Basic Sciences have discovered an important biomolecular mechanism for the formation of protein clusters or aggregates that are often seen in Alzheimer’s disease.
