IIT Ropar, German Academic Exchange Service partner to promote research, culture

DAAD and delegates from various IITs held discussions on enhancing cooperation among Indo-German higher education.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Ropar) has entered into an agreement with Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (German Academic Exchange Service, DAAD Germany) to promote student exchange programmes.

The bilateral programme between DAAD and IIT Ropar will also aim at promoting research and development, academic and cultural cooperation between India and Germany, through various research and exchange opportunities.

The exchange ceremony was held at the German Embassy in New Delhi. The ceremony was attended by IIT director Rajeev Ahuja and IIT Ropar international relations and alumni affair Atharva Poundarik. German ambassador Philipp Ackermann was also present on the occasion.

Rajeev Ahuja formally exchanged the agreement document with the DAAD deputy secretary general Michael Harms in the presence of the directors and representatives from other IITs.

DAAD and delegates from various IITs also held discussions on enhancing Indo-German higher education cooperation. IIT Roorkee and IIT Bhilai has also signed agreement with DAAD for academic collaboration.

DAAD New Delhi office set up in 1960

The DAAD regional office in New Delhi was established in 1960. It promotes academic exchange between Germany and India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

The office is responsible for providing information about education in Germany, grants scholarships to students, invites scientists from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka to Germany as well as those from Germany to these countries. It also supports bilateral research projects and the German House for Research and Innovation (DWIH) – New Delhi.

Established in 2008, Indian Institute of Technology Ropar is ranked 33 in National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). It was ranked 35 last year and 31 in 2021 by the NIRF.
