NEW DELHI, SEPTEMBER 24: Thousands of students from remote parts of India will get the opportunity to participate in the India International Science Festival (IIFS) to be held in Kolkata from November 5 onwards. The event aims to provide exposure to rural students on the advancements in science and technology.

Five students from each parliamentary constituency will be nominated by the respective Member of Parliament to take part in the Student Science Village at the festival. The science village will introduce students to the landing on the moon, rise of artificial intelligence, biomedical engineering and also provides career guidance.

Students will get to see Indian achievements in science and technology up close and interact with eminent scientists from the country and abroad. Around 2500 students between classes of 8 and 12 are expected to participate in the event.

“What I have realised during the science and technology events that I have visited over the years is that there is no problem that science cannot solve. Our aim is to imbibe this scientific temperament to the youth in all nooks and corners of the country,” said Union Minister of Science and Technology Harsh Vardhan.

The IIFS will have 28 events on science and technology like entrepreneurship conclaves, science films screenings, new age technology exhibition, etc. The event will see the participation of over 8,000 school and college students.

It will also have a dedicated conclave for women scientists and entrepreneurs to inspire future generations of innovators.

The festival is jointly organised by the science and technology-related ministries of Government of India along with Vijnana Bharati, an NGO working towards the popularization of science in India.
