Jadavpur University introduces distinguished alumni JU award to honour achievers in academia, business, arts and public life; first awards at next convocation

Jadavpur University has instituted the "Distinguished Alumni JU Award" to honour former students for their sustained and significant contributions across fields of national and global importance, Vice Chancellor Chiranjib Bhattacharya said Sunday. The decision was taken at the university's Executive Council meeting earlier this month.
Bhattacharya said the awards will be presented in five categories -- academia and research, corporate leadership, entrepreneurship, public life and philanthropy, and arts, literature and Creative Expression -- to recognise outstanding achievements of its alumni and inspire students.
The awards will be open to any alumnus of the university, the vice-chancellor said, adding that "candidates must demonstrate a consistent record of excellence and meaningful impact in one of the specified domains".

The first edition of the award will be conferred during the university's next convocation ceremony. "The initiative also seeks to deepen alumni engagement and foster stronger, long-term connections with graduates across generations and geographies," Bhattacharya said.
The selection process will be conducted by a high-level committee comprising eminent individuals of national repute, and will be coordinated by the ACER-JU Cell to ensure transparency and credibility.
