NEW DELHI, JUNE 17: JD Institute of Fashion Technology held The Fashion Awards 2019 which showcased 800 designed garments by over 600 students of the institute. Students of interior design displayed over 80 artistic interior exhibits. This year’s theme was ‘Switch’, signifying a shift from the existing perceptions and exploring the unknown.
Acknowledged as India’s largest design event, The Fashion Awards 2019 also honored noted personalities within the fashion and design industry.
The exhibits were inspired by concepts like sound sensors in the garments, designs for specially-abled people, also on dying crafts like Rogan art etc. around the theme – SWITCH, across diverse disciplines such as a fashion designing, interior designing, jewelry designing and textile designing. They included fashion collections, exhibits, installations as well as a 3-D walk-through showcasing the students’ creativity to a panel of distinguished industry experts. Noted fashion designer Rina Dhaka and, Ace architects Ms. Sonali Bhagwati and Mr. Manjeet Bhullar are mentor to the design students who guided them to create innovative designs for different concepts.
Rupal Dalal, Executive Director, JD Institute of Fashion Technology said, “The Fashion Awards aims at not only honouring trendsetters and icons within the fashion and design industry but also upcoming fashion designers. It is a platform for our students to showcase their innovative creations and is hugely inspiring. We feel truly proud of such vibrant & unique interpretations showcased by our students.”
The event was graced with the presence of Fashion Designers Rina Dhaka & Reynu Taandon, Socialite and founder, chairperson & MD of The Shahnaz Husain Group in India Shahnaz Hussain, ELLE Editor Supriya Dravid and Living ETC Editor Mridula Sharma and JD Institute of Fashion Technology presented them with awards.
The Institution also bestowed The RC Dalal Memorial Award and Chandrakant Dalal Memorial Award to encourage the spirit of entrepreneurship and budding talent. The award was presented to Tanvi Walia Baruah and Aashima Mehta, alumni from JD Institute of Fashion Technology along with prize money of INR 50,000 to help them start their own venture.
