JEE MAIN 2019: NTA to open application window for registration of EWS category candidates

New Delhi, March 4: National Testing Agency will open the JEE Main 2019 application window during March 11-15 for candidates to claim the 10% EWS reservation for the academic session 2019-20. The application window will be opened for candidates of JEE Main January as well as April attempt. Candidates will be required to fill their details regarding EWS reservation in JEE Main portal but will not be required to upload the EWS certificate. Candidates will, however, be required to upload the EWS certificate at the time of JEE Advanced application and in the further admission process. The EWS certificate has to be obtained from the competent authority, not below the rank of Tehsildar.
The Union Govt has implemented 10% quota in Central Education Institutions for candidates of Economically Weaker Section (EWS) who are not covered under the existing scheme of reservation for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Socially and Educationally Backward Classes. Candidates who want to claim EWS quota must not have a gross family income of more than Rs.8 Lakh and should not be in possession of agriculture land above 5 acres, a residential flat of 1000 sq. ft. and above, a residential plot of 100 sq. yard and above or residential plot of 100 sq. ft. and above. The Union Govt of India has also instructed all the educational institutes to increase the seats, with prior approval, over and above its annual permitted strength in each branch of study so as to accommodate 10% EWS reservation.
The Union Govt has also specified that the EWS quota will not be applicable to 8 institutions of excellence, institutions of national and strategic importance and minority education institutes as classified by the Govt of India. Each educational institutes are also directed by the govt to display the scheme of implementation of EWS reservation as soon as possible but not later than 31 March 2019.
