New Delhi: National Testing Agency (NTA) has started the JEE Main 2020 January exam today. The exam is being conducted from January 6 to 9 across 231 test cities of India and 9 centres abroad in two shifts each day. JEE Main Paper 2 for B.Arch/B.Plan is being held on January 6 while from January 7 to 9, Paper 1 for B.Tech will be conducted. The exam is conducted in online mode as computer based test except for drawing section of B.Arch which is conducted in offline mode with paper/pencil. The morning shifts is conducted from 09:30 am to 12:30 pm while the afternoon shift is held from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. The duration of the exam for students who opted for both B.Arch and B.Planning is from 2:30 to 06:00 pm.
A total of 11,18,673 candidates have registered for JEE Main 2020 out of which 9,21,261 are registered for B.E./B.Tech, 1,38,409 for B. Arch. and 59,003 for B Planning. A control room has been opened and 30 state coordinators, 240 city coordinators and 600 observers have been positioned for the successful conduction of exam. NTA has also placed live CCTV surveillance in all examination centres to curb malpractices in the examinations. The NTA is also making arrangements for live viewing at remote location and recording CCTVs Systems of all examination centres at control room situated in the NTA. A total of 9500 cameras per shift have been installed.
NTA also came up with major changes in exam pattern of JEE Main 2020 with the inclusion of questions with numerical ability and reduction in total number of questions to 75 from 90. The JEE Main Paper 1 question papers will now have 25 questions each from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics wherein 20 questions are MCQs and 5 questions will be questions with numerical ability. The paper 2 for B.Arch will have 20 MCQs and 5 numerical ability questions from architecture, 50 MCQs from aptitude and 2 drawing questions while B.Plan paper will have 20 MCQs and 5 numerical ability questions from planning, 50 MCQs from aptitude and 25 questions.
JEE Main is the most sought exam for engineering admission in India with estimated 10-12 lakh aspirants every year. JEE Main exam is the gateway for admission in institutes like IITs, NITs, IIITs, GFTIs and many other institutes. Students who qualify the JEE Main and secures the minimum qualifying cutoff marks becomes eligible for admission in NITs, IIITs and GFTIs and other participating institutes while students seeking admission in IITs have to further appear and qualify JEE Advanced.
