NEW DELHI, DECEMBER 8: Jawaharlal Nehru University has decided to conduct its first ever Computer-Based Test (CBT) in May 2019 for the JNU 2019-20 admission year. Interestingly, the National Testing Agency (NTA) is collaborating with the central university to help conducting JNU Entrance Examination (JNUEE). The university has delayed the JNU 2019 admissions, considering a number of difficulties including the change in exam mode which JNU aspirants may have to face while appearing for JNUEE 2019 if held in December, as earlier scheduled.

The decision was taken in the 148th Academic Council meeting held yesterday. However, the Academic Council meeting did not finalise any revised examination date as of now.

The Vice Chancellor of JNU, Prof Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar while convening the Academic Council meeting said that the NTA has agreed to help the university for conducting the computer-based test. “JNU will be the first central university to collaborate with National Testing Agency to conduct its national-level entrance examination,” the VC said, even as he added, “The university will be offering over 1000 MPhil and PhD seats for the academic year 2019-20.”

JNU Registrar, Dr Pramod Kumar, informed that a number of mock tests will be scheduled for the JNU 2019 aspirants. “The university will be introducing mock tests on its admission website which can be taken by the prospective JNU 2019 applicants to practise and get ready for the Computer-Based Test,” said the Registrar.

With the CBT for JNU 2019 admissions, Dr Kumar said that the exam will help in generating more number of applications across India including the remote parts of the country. “Keeping the remote areas in view, the university will be doubling its number of JNU Entrance Exam centres from that of last year so that the CBT can be accessible across India,” added the JNU Registrar.

The VC further said that JNU is rolling back to its normal admission schedule by conducting the JNUEE 2019 in May. “Last year was an exception to hold the exam in December, else JNU has been conducting the exam in May,” shared VC.

About JNUEE

The NTA is a government agency established in November 2017 to conduct entrance examinations for the Indian Higher Education. Until now, NTA is the conducting body to a number of examinations including JEE Main, NEET UG, CMAT, GPAT and UGC-NET.
