Karnataka approves 15,000 government school teacher posts; recruitment notification soon

Karnataka Teacher Recruitment 2026: 6,967 vacancies for Kalyana Karnataka and 8,033 for the non-Kalyana Karnataka region.

The Karnataka government has approved the recruitment of 15,000 teachers for government primary and high schools for the 2026-27 academic year. The Department of School Education and Literacy has issued an order approving the vacancies, with 6,967 posts allocated for the Kalyana Karnataka region and 8,033 posts for the non-Kalyana Karnataka region.

Karnataka Teacher Recruitment 2026: Region-wise vacancies

According to the notice, the 6,967 Kalyana Karnata vacancies include 3,228 Graduate Primary Teacher (GPT) posts, 2,214 Assistant Master (AM) posts, 800 Primary School Teacher (PST) posts, 425 Physical Education Teacher (PET) posts, and 300 Computer Science Teacher (CST) posts.

The 8,033 non-Kalyana Karnataka region vacancies comprise 5,272 graduate primary teacher posts, 2,286 assistant master posts, 100 primary school teacher posts, 175 physical education teacher posts, and 200 computer science teacher posts.

Teacher recruitment notification soon

Announcing the decision, Karnataka School Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa said on his X page that the recruitment process had been delayed as the government first undertook reforms to modernise teacher recruitment and the education system. He added that the final recruitment notification will be issued shortly, after which the selection process will begin.

The minister said the government had been managing the shortage by appointing guest teachers but described it as only a temporary arrangement.

The notification states that the vacancies has been approved under the Karnataka teacher recruitment plan for 2026-27. The government has also directed the School Education Department to take further steps for conducting the recruitment process in accordance with the applicable recruitment rules.
