Kerala to have its own digital university

NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala (IIITM-K) is set to become the state’s first “digital university”. The State Cabinet took the decision on January 15. According to an official press release, the Governor has been recommended to issue an ordinance to set up “The Kerala University of Digital Sciences Innovation and Technology”.

The IITM-K, an autonomous institution established under the Information Technology Department of Kerala in 2000, offers MSc Computer Science with various specialisations and M.Phil and PhD programmes.

The aim of the proposed ‘digital university’ is to boost research in digital texts, develop entrepreneurship and increase industry-academic connect. It will focus on Artificial Intelligence, data analytics, block-chain, cognitive science, Internet of Things and augmented reality.
