NEW DELHI: The Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) hosted an event titled civil 20 (C20) centred on gender equality and women empowerment on April 22, 2023. The event was a part of the G20 framework and will be held for two days at the KIIT campus. KIIT founder Achyuta Samanta was present in the summit, along with C20 chairperson Amritanandamayi and others.

As the summit began, Samanta said: "Odisha government is persevering in its efforts to focus on gender equality through programmes such as gender equality and women empowerment, through programmes such as Mission Shakti, which has empowered as many as 70 lakh women of self help groups". He added that a majority of students and people present on KIIT campus are women, and top priority is given to women empowerment there.

C20 chairperson Amritanandamayi then took over the programme and said: "We should not let hidden abilities go to waste. When women are suppressed, the world loses the productive contribution of 50 percent of its population". She also appealed to the people present in the programme to create favourable circumstances for women, so that they could succeed in all walks of life. She also stated that despite advancement in science and technology, there is still reluctance in acknowledging women as equal. "One out of four girls falling in the age group of 15 to 19 years is often denied employment or education", she said.
