NEW DELHI: The Lucknow district administration announced that schools in the city will remain closed for students up to Class 8 till January 10 amid a cold wave. The school will remain open for Class 9 to 12 students with a new time of 10 am to 3 pm.

According to the earlier instructions, the reopening of schools with classes of up to eight students was set to take place on January 8. However, due to the intense cold in the district, the administration has decided to keep the schools remain closed till January 10.

In an official notice, Suryapal Gangwar, a spokesperson of the district administration, said that the school management should make the necessary arrangements to safeguard students from the cold in classrooms. To keep the temperature in each room at a regular level, schools are required to make sure that heaters are used.

According to the recommendation of the district magistrate (DM), Lucknow, students should not be required to sit outside or in the open during classes, practicals, or examinations. Taking into consideration the cold temperature, the administration has requested that the restrictions on winter uniforms be relaxed. This would allow students to wear warm clothing as a means of protection.

The DM further proposed that, when possible, schools can offer classes through online mode. Only students are eligible to take advantage of this leave extension. Decisions about teaching and non-teaching staff will be determined by the employer or manager, taking into consideration their personal preferences.
