NEW DELHI: The National Medical Commission (NMC) said that the seat matrix for National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) counselling for MBBS, PG medical admission will be updated by each state counselling committee (SCC) along with the medical counselling committee (MCC).

The medical colleges, university authorities will no longer be allowed to enter data regarding the number of available medical seats for admission from the academic year 2024-25, it said. The decision was taken to improve transparency in the NEET UG, PG counselling process and seat reporting.

Each state counselling committee has also been directed to nominate a nodal officer for feeding such data. “Such nodal officer will be personally responsible for correctness of data fed into the system,” it said.

“The sections 14 and 15 of NMC, Act, 2019 empowers the National Medical Commission to regulate the manner of conducting of counselling by the designated authorities for admission to MBBS and PG-Medical seats in all the medical institutions which are governed by the provisions of this Act,” the commission said.

The order comes after the commission recently warned against the fake and forged permission letters for renewal and addition of PG seats in some of the medical colleges.

On August 30, the NMC clarified that the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) has neither issued letter for renewal for Meenakshi Medical College, Kanchipuram nor the permission to increase MS seats in Santhiram Medical College, Kurnool.

In another notice dated September 5, the NMC warned against the fake letter of permission issued to GSL Medical College, Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh.
