Miranda House organises orientation for 1,400 first-year undergraduate students

NEW DELHI: Miranda House today organised an orientation programme for 1,400 first-year undergraduate students as part of the commencement of 2023-24 academic session. A girls' common room and greenhouse was also inaugurated on the occasion.

The programme familiarised the new batch with the campus layout, academic policies, and resources available at the college. Parents of students were also present on the occasion. Following the orientation, parents were taken on a college tour.

The students were provided insights into the curriculum, research prospects, extracurricular activities, and other services that they can avail at the college. The students were also informed regarding the guidelines of the proctorial committee and the internal complaints committee, which is responsible for issues related to anti-ragging and incidents of sexual harassment on campus.

This orientation programme will continue for a week and students will be introduced to yoga, self-defense techniques, and a cleanliness drive. The students will also visit Jagatpura village, which has been adopted by the college under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan initiative. Besides, students will participate in mental well-being workshops.

Miranda House principal Bijayalaxmi Nanda said, "We firmly believe that establishing a strong foundation and a sense of belonging are pivotal for embarking on a fruitful academic journey." She emphasised on values of dignity, equity, and compassion.

Cultural societies of Miranda House held several performances on the occasion. “Miranda House remains resolute in upholding its tradition of providing a nurturing environment that empowers students to excel in both academics and personal growth. This orientation program marks the inception of the institution's ongoing efforts to support and guide its newest members on their transformative journey toward excellence,” the college said.
