Mumbai University postpones exams amid heavy rain; rescheduled to August 23

The University of Mumbai (MU) has announced the postponement of all exams scheduled to be held on August 19, 2025, citing heavy rainfall across the city. According to the official circular, all papers originally set for August 19 will now be conducted on August 23, 2025.

The decision was communicated through a circular issued by the Examination Section from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Bhavan, Vidyanagari, Kalina. The circular further states that the timing of the exams will remain the same as per the original schedule.

The university has directed heads of departments, affiliated colleges, and the directors of its sub-centres in Ratnagiri, Thane, and Kalyan to inform students and staff immediately about the revised schedule.

“The Head, University Departments, Director, Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) Director, Ratnagiri, Thane & Kalyan Sub Centre and the Principals of the all-affiliated Colleges in all Faculty concerned are hereby informed that the tomorrow’s Dated 19th August 2025 all examinations are Postponed due to heavy rain,” the official notice said.

The postponement comes amid a red alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) for Mumbai and nearby coastal districts, including Thane, Raigad, and Ratnagiri.

Earlier today, the IMD issued a red alert for Mumbai and nearby coastal districts, including Thane, Raigad, and Ratnagiri, predicting heavy rainfall and gusty winds. The advisory comes as a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, combined with cyclonic circulation, continues to affect Maharashtra’s coastal regions.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had declared a holiday for all schools and colleges in the afternoon session, and residents were advised to step out only if necessary. Several low-lying areas, including Andheri Subway and Lokhandwala Complex, have been waterlogged, affecting traffic, while local trains are operating with minor delays.
