NEW DELHI, MARCH 26: Breeding ground for some of the most revered actors around the country, the National School of Drama, best known as NSD, has opened admissions to its three-year full-time residential diploma course in Dramatic Arts. The last date to apply for the course is April 15, 2019.
NSD is one of the foremost and oldest theatre training institutions in the world set up in 1959. At present, it is fully financed by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The training in the School is highly intensive and based on a thorough, comprehensive, carefully planned syllabus. As a part of their training, students are required to produce plays which are then performed before the public.
The dramatic arts course will commence from August 5, 2019, and will be offered in both English and Hindi. It is a perfect opportunity for those who wish to become professionals in the area of acting, design, direction and other theatre-related disciplines. All selected students will also be given a monthly scholarship of Rs. 8000 per month to meet their academic and related expenses.
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for the course, one should have completed bachelors in any subject from a recognized University in India or abroad; should have participated in at least six theatre productions and must have a working knowledge of Hindi or English language.
Also, only those candidates who are 18 years or more and 30 years or less (as on July 1, 2019) in age can apply for the course. A relaxation of 5 years in upper age limit is provided for thsoe belonging to SC and ST category.
Furthermore, it is desired (though not essential) from the candidate to have three recommendations from theatre experts and documentary proof of experience in theatre.
“Of 26 seats, 4 seats are reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes; 2 are reserved for Scheduled Tribes and 7 seats are reserved for OBC,” reads the admission notice.
How to apply?
The applications for NSD Dramatic Arts course started from March 15, 2019. The last date to apply is April 15, 2019. Candidates can apply for the course in both online and offline mode.
For online medium, the applications can be filled and submitted via onlineadmission.nsd.gov.in. For offline mode, candidates can print the application form onlineadmission.nsd.gov.in or order it via post along with prospectus by writing to The Dean, Academic, National School of Drama, Bahawalpur House, Bhagwandas Road, New Delhi – 110001 with a crossed DD or Pay Order, payable at Delhi of Rs. 225/- drawn in favour of The Director, National School of Drama, New Delhi.
Foreign nationals can apply through the Indian Council for Cultural Relation only.
Selection Criteria
The selection will be done in two phases. In the first phase, candidates will be required to appear for preliminary examination and if shortlisted, they will have to appear for a 5-day final workshop in the school scheduled from July 1 to 5, 2019. The expenses for travel and accommodation for the workshop will be borne by the school. Their final selection will be subject to clearance of the fitness test at NSD Delhi.
