National Testing Agency to hold JEE Main, NEET twice a year; NET, CMAT and GPAT also come under its purview

NEW DELHI JULY 7: The National Testing Agency (NTA) will take over from CBSE this year to conduct JEE Main, NEET (UG), NET, CMAT and GPAT as per the latest announcement in a press conference held by MHRD minister Prakash Javadekar. The minister has also announced the dates for these exams that will be held twice a year.

National Testing Agency (NTA) was approved by the Union Cabinet in November 2017 to conduct entrance examinations for higher educational Institutions. The exam processes will be based on research and scientific test design using the services of Experts, Researchers, Statisticians, Psychometricians, Test Item Writers and Education Specialists who are being inducted into NTA.

Some salient features announced:

All the exams will be computer based.
The syllabus and the pattern of question paper as well as language of the exams would remain the same.
There will be NO increase in the exam fees currently being charged.
JEE (Main) and NEET (UG) will be conducted twice before admissions in the next academic session.
All the tests will be conducted in multiple sittings. Candidates will have an option to choose from multiple dates.
The scores will be equated using standardisation techniques considering the multiple dates of exams
Highly secured IT software and encryption will be used for the exams to ensure delivery of tests in time. This will ensure no leakages and other malpractices.

Benefits for students:

A network of test practice centres will be established so that everyone will have an opportunity to practice before the exam. These computer centres would be kept open on every Saturday/Sunday starting from 3rd week of August for use by students free of charge.
Students can appear one or both the times for the exams. The better of the two scores will be considered in such a case. It is not mandatory for students to sit for both the tests.
