NCTE revises shortlisting criteria for processing ITEP applications; all you need to know

NEW DELHI: National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has revised the selection criteria for processing applications for Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) from multidisciplinary institutions for the academic session 2025-26. The minimum points to be obtained by institutions to be shortlisted for processing applications has been reduced from 16 to 10 points.

The fourth phase of ITEP application process will begin from April 1 and will be closed on May 31. The expert committee submitted its report on February 14 for determining the shortlisting criteria.

“The category 1 institutions as per UGC should also be included having 8 points and the total points to be obtained by institutions to be shortlisted for processing would be a minimum of 10 (ten),” the report stated.

Earlier, the Institutions obtaining a minimum of 16 points were shortlisted for processing on the basis of extant norms and standards prescribed by NCTE.

NIRF ranking

As per the previous rules, universities featured in the top 1-50 ranks in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) published by the ministry of education were awarded 8 points. However, as per the revised criteria, the NIRF institutions will get a total weightage of 4 points.

IoE, NAAC accreditation

Institutes of Eminence or, Institutions of National Importance or, category 1 institutions under UGC, and central and state government universities graded with National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) ‘A’++ and above will be awarded a total of 8 points.

Institutions running NCTE recognized course(s)

2 points will be awarded to institutions having experience of running any NCTE recognised Teacher Education programmes and are currently recognised.
