NEET UG Counselling 2022: Candidates to lose money on resigning seat; left in a lurch

NEW DELHI: Several students have been left in lurch due to the resignation policy of the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) in National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) UG counselling 2022. Students alleged that states are not following the counselling schedule due to which they will lose money if they don't resign their seat before the deadline.

“I have taken admission in Symbiosis Medical College for Women, Pune and applied for upgradation (resignation date is November 1) but if I get a government college in Uttar Pradesh (result by November 5), will I be able to resign the seat without forfeiture of first year fees,” a candidate asked in a conversation with Careers360.

Another candidate said that they have joined Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences but looking for chances of getting a college in Telangana. “In anticipation of getting paid seat in Telangana, we plan to resign,” the candidate added.

As per the orders of the Supreme Court, round 1 of NEET UG 2022 All India Quota (AIQ) counseling should be completed by October 20 and the last date of joining should be October 28. On the other hand, all state counseling authorities have to complete their first round by October 28 so that students can choose one of the seats and resign from the other seat without losing any money.

According to an MCC notification, all students who have been allotted any seat in the AIQ 1st round can resign their seat by November 1 to avoid security amount forfeiture penalty in the next round. Some of the states which will release the college allotment results after November 1 are Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar, Gujarat, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh. If a student has got a seat in the deemed university and they are expecting seat allotment through state counseling also, they will have to decide by November 1, otherwise they will lose their security amount of Rs 2 lakh.

Recently, MCC issued a notification announcing that after NEET UG counselling 2022 round 1, the students who have not resigned the round 1 seat by November 1 will be considered as part of round 2 and rules of round 2 will be applied. The round 2 rules state that if candidates join the allotted college, they will become ineligible for other counselling process and if they don’t, their security money will be forfeited.
