NMIMS organises G20 round table to promote global collaboration of HEIs

NEW DELHI: Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS, deemed-to-be university) recently organised a G20 round table conference to promote global collaboration among higher education institutes.

NMIMS said the conference was aimed at promoting international engagement among educational institutes to offer quality education, equipping students to address global challenges for creating a sustainable world and reducing global disparities.

The participating members explored international collaborations in building capacities of institutes in promoting quality education, equipping students with knowledge and skills to promote employability and create a sustainable future.

Members from Group of 20 (G20) countries such as Australia, the UK, Canada, Germany, and the USA participated in the conference. Joanna Newman, chief executive and secretary general of Australian Catholic University (ACU), as chief guest at the event.

Other persons who attended the conference included Monica Kennedy, senior trade and investment commissioner , Mumbai, India- Austrade; Prachi Kaul, director, shastri Indo Canadian Institute (SICI) and Marja Sirkka Einig, deputy consul general, Germany in Mumbai

NMIMS’s G20 round table working committee, including university Vice-Chancellor Ramesh Bhat, Pro VC Sharad Mhaiskar, Meena Galliara, director, Jasani Center for Social Entrepreneurship and Sustainability Management, School of Business Management and Kaiwan Mehta, dean, Balwant Sheth School of Architecture, also participated in the conference.

The conference emphasised the role of HEIs in attaining United Nations sustainable development goals to ensure inclusive, equitable and affordable quality education which is crucial to attain economic prosperity and social development.

Bhat said, “At the G20 round table conference, the discussions revolved around topics including advancing collaboration and partnerships among global higher education institutions. Deliberations covered inclusivity in education and learning endeavours, enhancing student exchange programs for improved mobility, and making international education accessible to students both in India and abroad.”

Newman said, “Today, we talked about how international collaboration between universities can meet sustainable development goals. In a network like the Association of Commonwealth Universities, we have over 500 universities across 50 countries. It’s an example of how international collaboration meets global challenges.”
