NEW DELHI - The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in a hearing on Monday told the Supreme Court it is not possible to postpone the UPSC prelims 2020 exam. The apex court was hearing a petition filed by UPSC aspirants seeking the UPSC exam postponement due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in India.
UPSC Prelims 2020 is scheduled to be conducted on October 4, 2020. The petitioners cited the rising cases of COVID-19 as well as flood situation in a few states as the reason behind the postponement of the exam.
SC has asked UPSC to file an affidavit stating its reply and reasons why the UPSC exam cannot be postponed by tomorrow.
Representing UPSC in the Apex Court, Advocate Naresh Kaushik stated that it was impossible to postpone the examination. He also mentioned that the UPSC prelims 2020 exam was supposed to be conducted on September 30 but was pushed to October 4. Postponing the exam further will nullify its objective.
Earlier, UPSC released the IAS prelims admit card for the preliminary exam. This comes as a sign that UPSC will not postpone the IAS prelims further.
In order to make it convenient for candidates to appear in the exam, UPSC has also given extra chance for them to change their preference for the exam centre.
UPSC Civil Services Exam is conducted to recruit candidates for the posts of IAS, IFoS, IFS, IPS etc. It is one of the toughest exams in India and the selection process consists of three stages - Prelims, Mains and Interview/Personality Test.
UPSC Mains 2020 exam is scheduled to be held on January 08, 2021.
