Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ to meet state education officials today

NEW DELHI: Education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ will meet state education secretaries today to review the COVID-19 situation in their states. Most of the states have postponed their Class 12 board exams and other academic activities due to the second wave of coronavirus. Several, including Gujarat and Maharashtra, have cancelled the Class 10 exams altogether and schools and colleges are closed in most states.

Last month the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) cancelled Class 10 board exams and postponed the Class 12 exams. Class 12 students have also been demanding the cancellation of their board exams. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has also directed all universities, central and state, to postpone all offline exams till after May to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Pokhriyal’s announcement of the meeting suggested the meeting will cover online classes, the COVID-19 situation and the National Education Policy 2020.

Pokhriyal who has recently recovered from COVID-19 will be attending a virtual meeting with state education secretaries today.

Making the announcement on Twitter Pokhriyal wrote: “The objective of the meeting is to review the COVID situation, online education, and work around NEP.” The New Education Policy was announced last year suggesting various changes in the education sector in the country.
