Tamil Nadu SSA: A total of Rs 1,896.42 crore had been spent in 2025-26, of which only Rs 87.79 crore was released by the central government.
PM SHRI Schools Scheme: Out of the total number, 1,725 schools have been selected from Uttar Pradesh under the initiative.
The education department has already earmarked Rs 20 crore in the 2025-26 budget for the purchase of furniture and other essential items.
The campaign aims to ensure that every school prepares a disaster management plan and conducts regular mock drills so that children know "what to do" during an emergency.
The decision is aimed at ensuring transparent, independent and effective regulation of schools across Jammu and Kashmir, Thanaji Bhat, under secretary in School Education Department said.
A total of 2,774 elementary schools have been merged and amalgamated during the period, while the number of such secondary schools is 206, Jayant Chaudhary, union minister of state for education said.
West Bengal tops the list with 6,703 low-enrolment government schools and also has the highest number of teachers deployed in them, followed by Uttar Pradesh
